About the Test

If you have been advised to undergo a ColoGenix Pre-View test, this is because your GP wishes to investigate your bowel symptoms further.

The cell collection device has been in use for a number of years, and has an unblemished safety record. The test is not drug based, and simply involves the collection of exfoliated (waste) cells from your lower rectum wall. These cells are then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The test involves the insertion of the device into the rectum, followed by the inflation of a small balloon (approximately the size of a golf ball) that is used to collect the cells. There is no requirement for sedation or bowel preparation, and the test is usually completed in just a few minutes.

Important:

This information relates exclusively to the ColoGenix Pre-View test. It does NOT relate to any other test that your GP or clinician has recommended. It is most important that you follow the independent instructions regarding any other tests as directed by your GP or other clinician.

DIETARY CONTROLS AND PREPARING FOR THE TEST

No medicated bowel preparation is required.

In order to help us to maximise the effectiveness of the test, it is important that you follow a few simple dietary guidelines during the 24 hours prior to undergoing the cell collection procedure:

Please do not consume any alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your test appointment. Studies indicate that participants who have consumed alcohol within 24 hours prior to the test may provide an inaccurate test result. If you have consumed ANY alcohol in the 24 hours prior to your test, please notify the clinician prior to undergoing the test.

Please do not eat for at least 6 hours prior to your appointment. Studies indicate that patients who have not consumed food for a minimum of 6 hours prior to the test provide far more accurate results than those who have. If you have consumed any food/milk etc. within the 6 hours preceding your test, please make the clinician aware prior to your test. Please note that you may drink water normally and as desired.

If you have had a bowel movement during the two hours preceding the test, please notify the clinician who is due to conduct the test. Studies indicate that the test may provide inaccurate results if a bowel movement has taken place within this period. If this is the case, the clinician may need to reschedule the test or ask you to wait until two hours have passed before performing the test.
